Angus is known as the birthplace of Scotland. There are several major glens (valley would be my definition of a Glen). There are about 5 major glens in the county of Angus. Edzell is located between two of these glens (Glens Esk and Lethnot). One of the other major glens is Glen Clova. Clova is about 20 miles north west of Edzell. Doll is just beyond Clova and is a national park. We saw many pheasant families and sheep, cows, and a baby roe deer. We went to Clova & Doll today. It was a beautiful day for being out of doors in Scotland.
After a stop at the very elegant Hotel Glen Clova for tea we headed back to Edzell. Along our way home we spotted Castle Cortachy thru the trees and were given permission ( by the port-a-potty service man) to go up the drive to get a good photo. We did! There will be Highland games there in Sunday. I think we will go if the weather is cooperative.
On the family history search I am happy to say I have had a major breakthrough regarding my Grandmother’s time in Brechin. I have determined who her hosts were during her time and will go tomorrow with the address to find the location of the church manse where she would have visited. I actually unknowingly walked along that street the day I was at the cathedral but didn’t have all the info when I was there. I will tomorrow! Getting closer! (Brechin is 5 miles from where we are in Edzell and we go through Brechin on most of out outings or to go to the foodshop.
Enjoy the photos!
